Broadband / Internet

The Internet is a vital organisational tool that can be used effectively for communication and information sharing.

But there are so many options out there it is hard to know what to get.

Broadband vs Dial-up

You may be thinking that there is still a choice between these getting broadband or dial-up. In the past it was considered that broadband Internet was a lot more expensive than dial-up. This is however no longer the case. Also with dial-up it is not a constant connection often requiring more than one phone line (increasing the total cost). Broadband and in particular ADSL can be run off a single phone line that can be shared with phone services.

What is Broadband?

Simply put Broadband is fast Internet. For more information view Whirlpool's description.

What Broadband Plan Should my Church get?

IT Services does not recommend one service provider over the others. It usually comes down to your needs. However there are some tools that may help you choose a plan.

Discount Telstra Bigpond ADSL through Church resources.
Church Resources offers up to half price on Telstra broadband accounts. Our recommended plan on these accounts would be the '12GB LIBERTY ADSL 1500kbps/256kbps' plan. This offers the best value for money and would have enough download capacity to meet most Church's or staff  homes. However these plans come with strict conditions including having a Telstra phone service 24month contract.

Whirlpool Broadband Choice
This is a very comprehensive listing of all broadband suppliers. On this site you can search for plans to meet your needs. If you are wanting a faster connection then you would look for ADSL2+, otherwise ADSL would be sufficient.

How do I Setup my Connection

If you do not have someone with the knowledge to setup an internet connection within your church, make sure that your internet provider offers detailed instructions or an on-site setup option.
